Here are some of my nonprofit and advocacy work examples!
This is sample case for support that I created while taking a course on non-profits at my church’s ministry program. I chose to highlight Empowering Lives International, a program that was started in Kenya and helps empower people in parts of Africa by helping them get out of poverty. I would love to work in the non-profit sector, and this sample showcases how I could use my writing skills to benefit a non-profit. I would love to find more work in helping build campaigns for nonprofits, especially those that combat poverty domestically and globally. Global and Generational Poverty are causes that I care a lot about, especially as a Christian, and working on some level with nonprofits that sincerely and authentically work to genuinely help people in these situations is a dream of mine. ELI is an organization that I know is genuinely seeking to help because they see the value of all people, not to make themselves feel good.
This is a graphic that I made during my time in ministry. I made it during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic to help encourage church members to attend virtual classes and to stay involved with our students at our ministry training program, many of whom were struggling during the pandemic, either emotionally, spiritually, or financially. We encouraged our students to fundraise for their tuition, which is something I always had mixed feelings about, but it matched the goals of the church and ministry at the time, and the heart was really to gather support for our students and the next round of classes, which was successful. With a couple of years of experience now, I would probably make sure to include the program logo and maybe include a QR code, but I do like how this graphic turned out and how it matched the program’s branding.
This is a video made about the importance of fiber. I have always known the importance of fiber, especially as someone with diabetes, but learning more about the different types of fiber and thinking through ways that someone from a different culture or income level might be concerned about the topic was interesting. I care a lot about my health and the health of others, and it is important to me that the people in my life have access to a healthy diet. I would love to expand this topic into a longer video, explaining more about how fiber works and how we can all add more fiber to our diets in fun and healthy ways. I think it would be fun to work with the American Heart Association or a diabetes awareness group to come up with a campaign about this topic, focusing on the health benefits and also suggesting fiber-filled recipes and swaps for the average American, especially in the current economic climate, where money is tight for so many people.
